  • Highlights of my internships: The biggest highlight was being able to immerse myself in an environment that was completely out of my comfort zone. I learned a lot about B2B Marketing, which is something that was not really covered in my Tertiary education, so everything I learned was new and that in itself was quite interesting. My personality is more suitable to fun, quirky brands and being in an Industrial/Manufacturing environment was quite different and it required me to have an open mind. My internship really taught me that there is so much more to Marketing than what meets the eye.
  • Lessons learned and Advice for new Interns: The biggest lesson I learned was the importance of communication and also managing expectations. To always ask the relevant questions and ensure that what is expected from me is clearly defined. I also learned to be humble and to approach every task whether big or small with the same enthusiasm. I also learned to rely and trust in my own abilities, which is something that I had to learn over time but is a quality that I value the most. My advice to new interns is to always have an open mind and a will to learn as that’s what an internship is all about. You are not expected to know everything so don’t be hard yourself. Also take in everything that is in your environment besides your daily tasks, an internship will teach you so much more than that: You will learn about organisational cultures, People skills, and things like time management and planning. Be present in every moment and just allow yourself to learn!
  • What am I doing now: I now work as a Campaign Manager for a Digital & Mobile Marketing Company. It’s a challenging but fulling role and I’m still learning every day!
  • Leaders and Role models you admire: I admire so many things in so many people so it’s hard to pin point one person. I admire women who excel and push boundaries on a daily basis, I admire women who are mothers and still manage to climb the corporate ladder. I admire women like Oprah Winfrey, Khanyi Dhlomo, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, My Mother, My Aunts, My current and former Managers/Mentors who have ALL surprisingly been women. Just being in the presence of so many extraordinary women is a daily inspiration on its own.
